Haverford
Township
History
|
Haverford Township lies within the limits of the original "Welsh
Tract". Merion Township in Montgomery was the first township settled by the
Welsh and Haverford was the second. In 1683, Haverford Street or road was
laid out, the Haverford and Darby road was in 1687. In 1910, the population
was said to be 3989, living in the many villages and fertile farms of the
townships. There were steam and electric railroads throughout the township,
giving the rural population frequent and easier communication with
Philadelphia, which has caused an increase in population and land values.
The main post villages and stations of the township are: Llanerch, Beechwood
Park, Grassland, Haverford, Ardmore Junction, Brookthorpe, Coopertown and
Manoa.
