King of Prussia
History
|
In the early 1700's, Welsh immigrants settled King Of Prussia. It
was called Reeseville back then, named after a family who owned most of the
land. The name King Of Prussia comes from a tavern that was operated by the
Reese family later in the 18th century. The building of the tavern might
have been a private residence around 1709, but it was licensed sometime
between 1762 and 1769. People agree that the inn was named to honor
Frederick the Great, the King of Prussia from 1740 to 1746, but the
political reasons are not clear. By 1850, the postal service made common
usage official, giving the surrounding town the name "King of Prussia".
